Frequently asked questions.
How do I start psychotherapy?
Once you’ve decided to take the step to go to psychotherapy, you can call me on (949) 614-1314 for a free 10-minute phone consultation, if I am with a client, please leave a voicemail and I will call you back within 2 business days. During this 10-minute phone consultation we will discuss what your hopes are, and whether I am a good fit for you. Alternatively email me at stephanie@swopecounselingservices.com. Once we have been in touch we can schedule your first session.
For how long and how often do we meet?
A typical psychotherapy session for an individual is 45-minutes weekly.
For couples and families, I recommend 45 to 90-minute sessions weekly, at least at the beginning of the counseling journey to give every member space and time to express themselves and process.
However, in both cases the time and frequency will be tailored to your specific situation, for example, I also offer 30-minute check-ins or 90-minute sessions weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.
What is your fee?
Psychotherapy: My fee is $200 per 45-minute individual session, and $250 for a 45-minute couple session. Additionally, I do offer a sliding scale on a case-by-case basis, please contact me to discuss any financial hardship you might be having and I will do my best to accommodate you.
Do you take insurance?
I am an out-of-network provider, and accept self-pay only. Upon request I can provide you with a reimbursement document/’superbill’ to submit to your insurance company. It is your responsibility to check with your insurance provider whether they accept out-of-network providers.
I choose not accept insurance as insurance companies often require a diagnosis on record for you to be eligible for services through them, and there is often a session limit. Many of my clients prefer not to have a diagnosis on record as it could potentially come up during background checks and affect employment.
How do I pay you?
I accept debit/credit card through HIPAA-secure platforms, Health Savings Account (HSA), and Flexible Spending Account (FSA).
